New site
Well, I’m not at all done redesigning my site, but at least now I’m using a real hosting provider, so no more redirecting to my home machine with the ugly port 8080 in the URL. Also, I switched to using Wordpress instead of my own little Java/JSP/XML program. It works, I guess, but there seem to be a lot of bugs in this version (the latest release), and I find the admin GUI to be rather confusing. A lot of this could probably be fixed in the CSS - just aligning things differently, making it more obvious that buttons are buttons, etc. I would think about fixing it up to my preferences, but I doubt I will ever run out of things that I need to do first.
Anyway, I whipped up the CSS during the day yesterday, but it has some issues that I still need to work out, particularly on IE.
If you have any suggestions about design, I’d love to hear them. I tend to rely mostly on instinct for design, and my instinct tends to run out of ideas pretty fast. One thing I’m definitely going to do is make a more interesting header. But I can’t think what sort of image might look good without clashing with the ribbon borders on the sides. Maybe I’d do better not to use an image - maybe a gradient instead? Hmm, will have to think about this.
