Hosting issues
Yesterday my hosting provider was hammered with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. So my site was down all day. I guess that’s one disadvantage to having a shared host: no one may be attacking your site at all, but if someone else has a site under attack on the same server, everyone’s sites go down. Argh!
I think it’s working today, but you might have to wait eons for the page to actually load. Hopefully it will get better in a little while.

Well, it appears the slowness of my site was unrelated to the hosting problems. Going with a hunch, I commented out the line that checks weblogs.com for last updated logs, and now everything’s back to normal.

Pages are loading instantly again. Why was that line of code not affecting things before?

Good question. I haven’t had time to look into it yet. There might be some problem with weblogs.com itself, though I doubt it. I know weblogs.com blocks people that download the list of updated logs too frequently, so maybe the WordPress software was messing up somehow and I got blocked, and WordPress maybe wasn’t handling that well? I’m just guessing here. Maybe this weekend I’ll have time to figure it out.
