A new job
It seems to be the season for moving on to new jobs, and I am no exception. Four friends from my first job have found new positions in recent months, and so now I have felt the power of networking for the first time (my current job found me through my resume on Monster–no networking there). I wasn’t necessarily looking for a new job, but I knew I wouldn’t turn one down if I found one that was a little closer to what I want to be doing in the future.
And so here I am. I’ve found a new job. Unlike my previous two companies, my new employer doesn’t produce software for other companies. No, this time it’s an internet company. A public website. And I find that very exciting. I’m really looking forward to putting some of my recently learned knowledge about CSS, standards, search engine optimization, usability testing and such to good use. And I hope to learn more about visual design, as well.
The only drawback to this new job is that I have to leave my old one. It felt really strange handing in my resignation letter this Monday. It felt out of character, somehow. Like I was the first person to leave a party (I usually find it really hard to leave a party until the end, don’t ask me why). I also feel bad because I know that I am an important part of the team, and they’d even planned my schedule out a couple months into the future, with a bunch of things for me to do. And now I won’t be there to do them. I know they’ll do just fine without me, but it kind of feels like I’m letting them down. Everyone tells me I’ve got to do what’s best for me, though, and I agree. It doesn’t make it feel any less weird, though.
So anyway, now you can probably see what prompted the “motivation” posts below. My last day at my current job is July 2nd, and I start the new one July 7th (taking an extra day on the 4th of July weekend to turn it into a mini-vacation before the new job). I’m sure I’ll have plenty to add later about the transition and the new job.
In the meantime, I’ll try to post tomorrow about the little hiking excursion I went on this past weekend. I took so many pictures, I filled up my 128MB memory card and had to put a couple pictures on the 16MB card that came with the camera! Don’t worry, most of them are pretty similar–trees and rocks–so I won’t be posting them all!

Congrats. Lots of people starting new jobs. I’m still trying to get my freelancing off the ground
You’ll have to tell us more about what you will be doing sometime…I’m always interested in knowing the skillsets people getting real jobs have, since someday I want to get a real job for myself!
