First week at the new job

Well, it’s been a week now since I started my new job. I’m fairly settled in now, and starting to get some work done (though of course I’m still in the process of getting up to speed).

The name of the company is CE-HQ (short for Consumer Electronics Headquarters), though it will probably (hopefully) be changing to DigitalAdvisor soon (a much easier name to remember and say out loud). They have just released the new DigitalAdvisor site, but there are also a couple of older sites that have been live for a while now (I guess they served as proof-of-concept for the new DigitalAdvisor site): DigitalCamera-HQ and SatelliteTV-HQ.

Anyway, there is lots to be done for design and usability, as you can see, and I’m excited about working on it. I’ll also be working on a content-management system for managing the site, which is more along the lines of what I’ve done in previous jobs.

I really like our office — the view of rolling hills right outside my window, sleek-looking desks and brightly-colored walls, my lovely 20″ flat panel monitor… Though it’s freezing in here. Hopefully they’ll take care of that soon!

Oh, and did I mention the company is only six people (including me)? I’ve never worked for such a small company before (though we share an office with the company that spun us off, and we’re owned by a large corporation, so I guess in a way it might be more like working on one team within a company vs. the typical start-up). It will be interesting to see how the culture differs from my prevous jobs. I’ve already started to see the differences — everyone seems a lot more involved here, unlike my last job, where I would do almost all of my design and coding off by myself. Could require a little adjustment on my part.
