Fall is nearly here…
…and all of a sudden my life is busy again.
This year I finally stopped talking about joining a local (non-college) orchestra, and actually did it. I auditioned with the Longwood Symphony Orchestra this Tuesday, and found out last night that I was accepted. I also learned that, as a new member, I might have to sit towards the back of the section for this concert, but that the conductor likes to rotate the seating for the string sections. Too bad. I don’t really like sitting in the back, and this way I don’t automatically know where I stand in relation to the other violists. Of course, in a way it’s good, since a five-minute audition isn’t necessarily the best predictor of one’s ability to play well in an orchestra. And this Tuesday’s audition wasn’t my best. I was actually a little nervous, at least physically, which translated to a slightly shakier performance than I was capable of. It wasn’t bad (I thought I played well musically), but it could have been a bit cleaner, maybe.
Anyway, in addition to the symphony, I’m also playing chamber music at MIT again. Somehow I ended up in two groups instead of one. And in addition to those two groups, my group from last spring was asked to play the Brahms C minor piano quartet once again for a concert in October.
I’m going to be busy.
