Sheet music online
My friend Arny sent me a link to EveryNote today. Apparently their aim is to provide sheet music of every note ever composed. For now, though, they mostly have piano, violin, and guitar music, though they’ve started adding chamber music, which is much more interesting to me personally. The repertoire is still pretty sparse, but they have some good stuff, like Beethoven, Brahms, and Mozart quartets. The quality is not as good as buying originals, of course, and it’s not free, but it’s not as expensive as buying normal print editions of sheet music.
They’re limited to using only out-of-copyright editions or music sent to them directly by composers themselves. I bet they’d also be able to use editions manually entered into Finale or other music notation software, but maybe that’s too much work to be work the effort (plus it’s not easy to make a professional-quality score using that software, at least last I heard).
